 Course Descriptions

 

 

Advanced Excel

 

Topics include filters, sorts, subtotals and other database-like features. Learn to use pivot tables, to import data from a database or the Internet, to customize toolbars, to record and run macros and to run a mail merge. Other topics include sharing a workbook, protecting worksheets, using graphics and data validation. Prerequisites: Excel experience or completion of Intermediate Excel.

 

 

 

Advanced Microsoft Word

 

Learn to use such Word features as sections, columns, text boxes, AutoText, AutoCorrect and AutoFormat. Learn to customize toolbars, to run a mail merge, and to share and review documents with others. Also covered are creating a table of contents, an index, footnotes and a bibliography. Prerequisites: Experience using Microsoft Word or completion of the Intermediate Word course.

 

 

 

Beginning Excel

 

Learn the advantages of electronic spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel. This course covers how to create and save Excel workbooks, how to write formulas and use built-in functions to do calculations, how to format your spreadsheets for appearance and effect, printing, and how to correct mistakes and fix problems.

 

 

 

Beginning Microsoft Word

 

Learn word processing using Microsoft Word. You will learn to open, create and save documents, to format your documents for appearance and effect, to copy and move text, to use tabs, indenting and line spacing, to create bulleted and numbered lists, to easily correct mistakes and edit your documents, to use templates, to print and to use Microsoft Help.

 

 

 

Beginning PowerPoint

 

Learn to create PowerPoint presentations from scratch and from templates. Learn to create slides, to modify a slide’s layout, and to add text, graphics, pictures, shapes and WordArt. Other topics include applying themes and Quick Styles and running your slide show.

 

 

 

Intermediate Excel

 

Topics include styles, templates, freezing and hiding rows and columns, borders and shading, headers and footers, conditional formatting, comments and custom autofill lists. Continue training in formula writing, learn to create and customize all types of charts, and learn the ins and out of printing. Prerequisites: Some experience using Excel or completion of the Beginning Excel course.

 

 

 

Intermediate Microsoft Word

 

The course covers the use of styles and themes, headers and footers, tables, adding graphics and pictures to your documents, and use of WordArt, SmartArt, and Shapes. Also covered are printing techniques using page breaks and page setup options and printing of envelopes and labels. Prerequisites: Some experience using Microsoft Word or completion of the Beginning Word course.

 

 

 

Intermediate PowerPoint

 

Topics include transitions and animations, changing color schemes, adding backgrounds, using slide masters, adding media clips to slides, using tables and charts, Smart Art, printing handouts, and reviewing presentations. Prerequisites: Some experience using PowerPoint or completion of the Beginning PowerPoint course.

 

 

 

Introduction to Computers

 

This course is intended for people with no experience or very little experience using a computer.  It will introduce the concepts of hardware, software and networks, the Windows operating system, show you how to work with programs, files and folders, how to use the Internet and how to use E-mail.

 

 

 

Introduction to Digital Photography

 

 

 

 

Learn both the technical and visual aspects of what makes a good photograph. Understand the features of digital cameras and how to use the various settings to take better photos, even in difficult circumstances. Understand resolution, compression and different file formats.

 

 

 

 

Introduction to Photoshop Elements

 

Learn the Photoshop interface, understand file types, file size, image size and resolution. Learn to improve image quality by adjusting sharpness, brightness, contrast and saturation. Learn to add layers, crop and resize images, add text, print and create online albums, slideshows, and more. Prerequisites: Some experience with digital photog-raphy or completion of the Digital Photography course.
